Frequently asked questions
- Why do iPhone photos use HEIC?
- HEIC stores images at roughly half the size of JPG at similar quality, saving space on the device. The trade-off is weaker support elsewhere.
- Will I lose photo quality?
- There is a small quality cost since both formats are lossy, but at default settings the difference is not visible in normal viewing.
- How do I stop my iPhone making HEIC files?
- In Settings → Camera → Formats, choose “Most Compatible”. New photos will be saved as JPG.
