Frequently asked questions
- What happens to transparency?
- JPG cannot store transparency. Transparent areas are flattened onto a solid background during conversion.
- Will the image lose quality?
- JPG is lossy, so some data is discarded. At default quality the difference is not visible in normal viewing — but avoid it for images you will edit repeatedly.
- Is JPG or JPEG correct?
- They are the same format. The three-letter extension is a legacy of older systems that allowed only three characters.
